Fostering

The Family Placement Team provides a comprehensive fostering service. We actively recruit and train foster carers, match children with carers and support them whilst in foster care.

What is Fostering?

When children are taken into Local Authority care, it is our responsibility to find the best place and the best people to look after them. Big children’s homes are a thing of the past and there are only a few small ones. In Kingston upon Thames we think the best place for these children is in a family home with a Foster Carer.

Foster Carers are ordinary people who like spending time with children, who are paid a fee by the council to look after them in their own home. All foster carers are checked, assessed and given training to help them care for vulnerable children.

Foster carers need a caring and tolerant personality to try to help each child they look after to be as happy and successful as they can be.
