Private Fostering

The council is responsible for checking on the welfare of all privately fostered children, and for giving advice to those who do the caring.  A privately fostered child is defined as being under 16 (or 18 if disabled) and cared for and provided with accommodation for 28 days or more by someone who is not a relative or guardian.

If you are considering asking someone else to look after your child, or you are being asked to care or are caring for a child, please contact the Adoption and Fostering Team for advice.
