Taxicard Scheme

Taxicard Scheme

The London Taxicard Scheme allows people with serious and permanent walking difficulties, to travel in licensed black cabs at heavily subsidised rates.

To be eligible for a Taxicard you must be registered blind or receive one of the following:

  • the higher rate of the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance
  • War pension·Mobility Supplement

       OR:

  • Be unable to use buses/ trains because of blindness/permanent or long term disability/ illness, which makes walking difficult for you.

Travel Assistance Scheme

The Transport for London/London Dial-a-Ride Travel Assistance Scheme provides short term assistance to enable a disabled person to become an independent traveller, using accessible public transport. Travel information for people with learning difficulties

Use the link at the bottom of the page to find out about the Out and About in London series of guides to help people with learning difficulties access the various transport options in the greater London area. The series includes guidance on supporting people with learning difficulties to travel on their own in London. A copy of the guides can be obtained by phoning the Transport for London information line on 0207 222 1234.

Dial-a-Ride

Dial-a-Ride is a door-to-door service for disabled people who can't use buses, trains or the Tube. It can be used for all sorts of journeys, but not for hospital appointments.

To be eligible for Dial-a-Ride membership you must have a permanent or long-term disability which severly restricts your ability to use public transport services.

You are automatically eligible for membership of Dial-a-Ride if you are:

  • a current member of Taxicard
  • in receipt of Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance
  • registered blind
  • in receipt of Higher Rate Attendance Allowance
  • in receipt of a War Pension Mobility Supplement

If you do not fulfill any of the criteria above, you may still be eligible for Dial-a-Ride but you may have to provide further evidence of your mobility problems. To use Dial-a-Ride you have to become a member.
