Day Centre Consultation

Crescent Centre

Day services for people with physical disabilities: The Crescent Resource Centre

We are making changes to adult social care, to make sure people have more choice and control over their services and support.

Below is some some information about how we are going to consult with people about our plans to change Physical Disability Day Services.

A Report about the changes was agreed at a meeting of the full Council on Monday 1 March. This is what it said about day services for people with physical disabilities:

  • The Crescent building is not fit for purpose, it is too big now that less people use it and it also needs a lot of work doing to it.  It was therefore agreed that the Crescent building should close.
  • Outreach services must be reiviewed and developed  to give people more choice about activities and services.
  • There should be a new drop-in centre or a number of drop-in centres in the community that people can go to for support. The centre must be fully accessible
  • Everyone should have a Personal Budget. People will get support to choose what they want to do and make a plan. People will not have to look after the money themselves if they don’t want to.
  • We should keep working with Dyscover, Kingston College, Enhanceable, and other support providers to make sure there are lots of opportunities for day and support activities.
  • The changes will also affect transport to and from the day services, so we will have to look at the way this works too.

The Results

The consultation about Day Services ended on 13 June. We have looked at the results and have published a full report and an easy to read version (see links at the bottom of the page).

Day services for people with learning disabilities: The Causeway Centre

We are also making changes to day services for people with learning disabilities to make sure people have more choice and control over the services and support they receive.

A Report about the changes was agreed at a meeting of the full Council on Monday 1 March. This is what it said about day services for people with learning disabilities:

  • The Causeway building is not fit for purpose—it is too big now that less people use it and it also needs a lot of work doing to it.
  • Further work Activities like Stud Farm, Victoria Park and Canbury Coffee Shop should be set up.
  • There should be a new, fully accessible drop-in centre in the community that people can go to for support.
  • Everyone should have an Individual Budget. People will get support to choose what they want to do and make a plan and will not have to look after the money themselves.
  • The learning disability service should keep working with HFT and other support providers to make sure there are lots of opportunities for day activities.
  • The changes will also affect transport to and from the day services, so we will have to look at the way this works too.

The consultation document at the bottom of the page tells you more about the details of what is changing, why things are changing and how you can have your say.
