Two people reading from a folder

Who can be an Adult Placement Carer?

Adult Placement Carers offer support and care in their own homes to people who need help to live independently.

People who need support to live independently includes, for example, people with a with a disability, someone with a mental health need, a young person moving into adult services, or an older person.

Anyone can be an Adult Placement Carer providing they live in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames and they have the time and space to welcome someone into their home to live as part of their family.

You need to have a caring attitude and an understanding nature but you do not need to have any experience of caring or have any professional caring qualifications as you will be given a full assessment, training and ongoing support in all aspects of your job as a carer.

We are currently not recruiting Adult Placement Scheme carers until 2010 but please contact us to find out more or to express an interest in becoming a carer.

What is involved?

You will be providing a service in your own home to someone who needs support to live independently. The sorts of support you provide may include helping the person to:

  • Look after themselves
  • Keep healthy and active
  • Learn new skills
  • Meet people
  • Enjoy hobbies and activities
  • Manage their money
  • Share jobs like cooking, cleaning or gardening

You will receive from £380 a week.

You will be carefully matched with the person wishing to use the Scheme, bearing in mind your needs and preferences and those of the person you will be looking after.

As you will be caring for a vulnerable adult, we will take up police checks and references.
