The Urban Design Action Plan has been developed by the urban design team to identify upcoming work and help to prioritise tasks. Below are brief descriptions of the work being undertaken by the Urban Design Team and current council projects and initiatives.
The council has a proactive approach to protecting and encouraging quality design within the borough. This includes work on setting design policies, establishing and expressing a shared vision for places within the borough, and engaging positively with applicants and designers throughout the planning application process.
A commitment to design quality goes hand in hand with raising awareness of related issues and equipping ourselves to deal with these issues. Various initiatives such as establishing the design champion role, local design review panels, and councillor design training illustrate the commitment of this Council to quality design and help to equip us to raise the quality of design within the borough.
The council deals with many projects for the improvement of specific areas within the borough that are developed through interdisciplinary working of council officers, project teams, in association with key councillors. The Urban Design team are often involved with many projects of this nature. Information on these projects and the team members will be available on our web site as they come on line.
The Urban Design Team also work on a number of council wide initiatives such as K+20 the Town Centre Area Action Plan.
