In response to government guidance, the council has appointed a Design Champion who's key aim is to generate a commitment to providing the highest quality urban design in the Borough.
The Council’s Executive has appointed Councillor Francis Moseley to fufill this role.
As the Design Champion Councillor Moseley pays particular attention to design initiatives taking place in the borough as well as design issues that arise through the planning system.
The Design Champion role includes :
- Integrating design quality into the Council’s corporate policies.
- Co-ordinating the design aspects of Council work in the following areas, building design / building control / highways / town planning / urban design / landscape design / property maintenance and management.
- Generating and co-ordinating enthusiasm and commitment for design quality within the wider community.
- Promoting the the highest standards for the design of public space.
- Promoting a proactive approach to improving the Royal Borough’s environment.
- Seeking to ensure sustainability , from detailed building design and location to efficiency , livability and durability.
- Sharing best practise with other authorities;
- Monitoring the Urban Design Action Plan.
