Fly Tipping
Fly tipping is the illegal dumping of waste onto land with no licence to receive it.
Typically a fly tip can also be:
- residential waste bags left in a clearly non-designated area - eg by a public litter bin
- trade waste left in a clearly non-designated area - eg building materials on verges
- hazardous waste illegally dumped
- residential waste illegally dumped
Fly Tipping on Public Highways
Our street cleansing contractor, Veolia, removes reported fly tipped waste from the public highway (any road open to the public) and our Neighbourhood Rangers remove small tips as and when they come across them.
- Small fly tips are removed within 12 hours of being reported
- A large fly tip, which requires a grab lorry, may take up to 3 days to remove.

Fly Tipping on Private Land
We do not remove fly tipped waste from private land, for example from shared alleyways, service roads and garages. It is the responsiility of the land owner to clear waste from private land.
Where the fly tip is hazardous waste on private land, residents should contact the Corporation of London - Hazardous Waste Unit. The Unit will provide you with specific instructions and advise on collection dates. Please telephone 020 7332 3433 or follow the link below:
Report Fly Tipping
If you see any dumped rubbish on the public highway, please contact us with:
- the location by road
- the size
- a description of the material in the tip

Report someone in the process of Fly Tipping
Fly tipping is dangerous, anti-social and expensive to remove. It is a direct contravention of section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Someone convicted of contravening the act could be liable for a substantial fine. The fine is up to £50,000 in the Magistrates Court, but unlimited if taken before another Court.
