Orange sack and brown food waste bin out for collection

Flats Recycling Service

The Council provides 6,000 housing estate and privately owned blocks of high rise and low level flats with a recycling service.  This service consists of two types of container.

Find your recyling collection day

Orange Sack

The orange sack allows you to recycle some 'dry' household waste from your flat.  Place the following items in the orange sack and place it outside your front door on your collection day by 7am

  • Paper
  • Glass Bottles and Jars (place these in a seperate bag as broken glass can contaminate the paper)
  • Food and Drinks cans
  • Plastic Bottles

Please rinse bottles, jars and cans before putting them in the orange sack.

Please do not put the following materials in your orange sack:

  • Cardboard (please take to local Recycling Points)
  • Food packaging, plastic containers, and trays
  • Telephone directories (please take to Villiers Road Recycling Centre)
  • Yoghurt pots and margarine tubs
  • Plastic packaging / microwave trays
  • Garden and garage chemicals and oil bottles
  • Bottle tops
  • No broken glass or other types of glass (e.g. Pyrex, window panes)
  • Clothing and textiles (please take to Local Charity Shops).

Brown Food Waste bin

Approximately 6000 residents are provided with a 25 litre brown food waste bin and 25 litre biodegradable bin liners.  Please place the following items in the brown food waste bin, once it is full or it is put out for collection tie the bag up and leave outside your front door by 7am on the day of your collection. Please make sure the handle is in the forward locked position.

  • Meat and Fish
  • Raw and cooked including bones
  • All Dairy Products
  • Such as eggs and cheese
  • Fruit and Vegetables
  • Both raw and cooks
  • Bread Cakes and Pastries
  • Rice, pasta and beans
  • Any left overs
  • Uneaten food from your plates and dishes
  • Tea and Coffee Grounds

Please do not put the following materials in your brown food waste bin:

  • Packaging of any sort
  • Plastic bags
  • Liquids and oil or liquid fats
  • Glass
