Accessing the site:

  • The HRRC is open to residents of Kingston only.
  • You must be in possession of a current "Resident's Permit" to gain access.  The 2011/12 permits were enclosed in the 2011/12 Council tax demand envelopes posted to residents mid-March 2011.  To request a replacement, please call the Council's Contact Centre on 020 8547 5002. Resident's permits can only be sent in the post and are not available for collection at either the Guildhall or at the HRRC.
  • Gate staff will also accept:
    • a current year Council Tax Demand,
    • or a current Kingston CRZ Resident Parking Permit only
  • Pedestrians and cyclists cannot be permitted to enter the site due to the high level of vehicle movements .  There is however a mini-recycling area near to the gate which you can access on foot or by bicycle. Please ask the member of staff at the gate to assist you if needed.
  • Children and animals must remain inside vehicles at all times.

Using the site:

  • The HRRC is provided to assist residents to recycle or dispose of "Household Waste" which cannot be collected by the kerbside collection services.
  • It is a condition of entry into the site that all recyclable and reusable items are seperated and placed in to the right containers. Staff site are there to assist with this where required. Please ask if you are not sure where particular items should be placed.

Vans, high-sided vehicles and vehicles with trailers:

  • If you own a van, vehicle over 1.75 metres (6ft) in height or intend to use a trailer, you can still use the site but access times are restricted in order to reduce congestion at busy times.
  • If you visit the site using a van you will be required to show a valid resident's permit and complete an "honesty form", given to you by site staff, before entry to the site. The honesty form requires you to declare that you are only carrying your own household waste.
  • Further restrictions may be put in place during 2012.

What can you take to the site

  • A wide range of items can be recycled at the site. Please see the "What can you recycle" link below for more information.
  • Whether you are bringing items for recycling or disposal, all items must be considered "household waste". This means items used day to day in the running/operation of the home. They are the items you take in when you move in and take with you when you move out. Any waste or recycling brought to the site must be from your own home.

What can you not take to the site

  • Commercial waste. This includes waste resulting from any form of employment or commercial enterprise.
  • Waste from any property other than from your own home.
  • Hazardous waste: this includes tyres, asbestos, gas bottles, oil based paint and chemicals.
  • Construction waste. Whether you have made home improvements yourself or hired a contractor to do this on your behalf, items generated from construction are not seen as Household waste. For example, bricks, timber, tiles plasterboard, soil, paving stones and any other material used in the construction of your home or garden should not be brought to the site.

DIY Concession

The Council recognises that residents have occassional need to dispose of small amounts of construction waste created by  undertaking minor DIY projects/repairs in their own home. As such, you may bring in up to two liftable bags of D.I.Y waste in to the site.  Residents making repeat visits claiming this allowance will be turned away.If you have a large amount of this type of waste to dispose of you should consider hiring a skip or private contractor to remove it for you.

This concession may be changed in 2012
