The Preferred Options stage was approved by the Councils Executive on 17 May 2005 for consultation purposes and went out for public consultation in mid-June until 5 August 2005.
The Preferred Options identifies key areas of the town centre suitable for change to accommodate new development and facilities and key areas for conservation and environmental improvements, in order to protect the town from inappropriate development and to preserve and enhance its attractive character, its historic environment and the riverside.
The Action Plan is a way of ensuring development of an appropriate scale, mix and quality for the key areas of opportunity, change and conservation.
The Preferred Options draws on the results of the consultation of the earlier stages of K+20.
It analyses the current distribution of uses, activities and transport in the town centre; sets out key issues to be addressed, spatial objectives and the Spatial Vision – Preferred Options; together with details about how the Vision can be delivered.
From the start the Council has been keen to work with a range of partners and to engage with the local community and again we would like to involve as many local people, visitors and organisations as we can in this Preferred Options consultation.
The consultation period ended on 5 August 2005 and approximatley 2,500 responses were received. An analysis of the questionnaire responses and a summary of the responses received by letter, are available for viewing.
The full consultation document, a summary document and a questionnaire on the Preferred Options is available online at the bottom of this page.
The report is available for viewing and dowloading on the Council's Committee Agenda and Meetings Website (link at bottom of page) or is available on request if you contact us either by phone or email or visiting the planning reception in Guildhall 2.
The next step was to prepare the draft Area Action Plan, taking into account the comments received.
