The Fairfield Recreation Ground is located just off the town centre, behind the Cattle Market and Kingfisher Leisure Centre. The recreation ground covers an area of just over 6 acres and is a welcome oasis on the fringe of the town centre. The site, largely rectangular, is divided into two main sections by an avenue of mature Lime trees. Victorian planting of Limes, London Planes and younger specimen trees of Silver Maple and Cherry dominate the main site. This path serves as a useful ‘cut through’ from the Kingston Road area to the town centre.
It has a Trim Trail for fitness enthusiasts and a Children’s playground across Fairfield Road on the Kingfisher site. The playground is small but very popular with the kids. The age range is from 3 to 14 years.
There are toilets on site attached to the main pavilion building, built circa 1989. The site also features football and cricket pitches, which can be booked through the council, contact details below.
Throughout the year Fairfield Recreational Ground hosts a number of events such as the very popular May Merry. Normally held over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend, the May Merry is one of the highlights of the Kingston events calendar and the fun spreads throughout the town centre.
Buses to this site are the K1 and K4, but within a short walking distance, just the other side of the Kingfisher Leisure Centre, you will find numerous buses that serve the town centre.
The Kingfisher site covers an area of just under an acre, and its main features are the playground and planted up shrub borders. Mature London Planes define the southern boundary along the Fairfield Road and give shade to the adjacent playground. Victorian railings provide the site boundary on the southern and eastern sides as it does around the main site of Fairfield Recreation Ground.
