Blagdon Road Open Space is tucked away behind the Malden Leisure Centre just off New Malden High Street. The open space is a small site covering an area of just 3 acres. It contains a children’s playground, a ball court and various footpaths that criss-cross the site.
Blagdon Road Open Space is a small rural area surrounded by the thriving urban town centre of New Malden. There is a small environmental area at one end of the site with naturalised shrub borders. The site is also a very useful cut through from the A3 to New Malden town centre.
The children’s playground is very popular with good equipment and is suitable for the age group 3 to 14 years. Many shoppers and parents use the playground as a welcome rest/play stop on their way to the Malden Leisure Centre or High Street.
The ball court is very well used, not only for basketball but as a meeting place and kick about area for both teenagers and adults.
The open space is also used on an annual basis for the New Malden Fortnight Festival which is organised by the Chamber of Commerce. Events are held throughout the fortnight in and around the High Street.
Buses to this area include the K1, 213,and the 152.
