Athelstan Recreation Ground, commonly believed to be named after the Saxon monarch, lies just off Villiers Road and covers an area of 3 acres.
The park contains a large playground that separates two age groups, 3 to 8 years old and 9 to14 years old. The playground has some interesting equipment, some of which is suitable for children with disabilities.
There are toilets on site which include disabled access.
The Billy Benson Funfair is held in this park on a bi-annual basis, next due in Easter 2006.
The event lasts for 10 days. Five-a-side goals are in situ where football is played on an impromptu basis and is very popular.
Bus routes to this site include the K1 and K4.
