In 2002, the Royal Borough of Kingston council worked with local filmmaker, Derek Phillips, on a short film entitled 'The Hogsmill river - the life, history and art of a Surrey stream' that continues his previous work capturing the Hogsmill in Epsom and Ewell. The project was supported by Thames Water and Croydon College and highlights the important role the river continues to play in the development and life of the Borough. The production of the video was also part of the ongoing work to encourage local residents to 'adopt' stretches of the river and form Hogsmill Action Group (HAG) to care for their local environment.
A sample of the video can be downloaded. Please note the high quality file is large (6 MB), and will take a while to download, it is suggested that you 'right-click' on the file and 'save the file' to your PC rather than trying to view it from within your browser.
Tricia Bamford, Executive Member for Environmental Strategy said ‘Kingston was very pleased to be hosting the launch. The Hogsmill is a very important and highly valued asset to the Borough and it’s clear from the numbers of enthusiastic volunteers at the Hogsmill Action Group events that residents feel the same. I hope the release of the video will encourage more people to enjoy the river.’
