Hogsmill Sewage Treatment Works

In response to complaints, the Council has been seeking undertakings from Thames Water regarding improvements they are intending to carry out to reduce odours.  To this end the Council has engaged odour management consultants to assist with its investigations.

Works that should have some beneficial effect have already been carried out and over the coming year there are already plans for significant further improvements to plant and processes.  At the present time negotiations and discussions are continuing with Thames Water and OFWAT and it is hoped that over the next few months a more detailed picture of what is going to be done and when will be known.

In order that the Council can demonstrate to Thames Water and OFWAT the severity of the odour problem and how it affects residents it is essential for us to have comprehensive and up to date information about odours from the site.  Your continued assistance in notifying us when they occur would therefore be of great help.

You can register an odour incident with the Council by using the Report an Odour Online link, by e-mail at hogstwodour@rbk.kingston.gov.uk or a message can be left 24 hours a day on the Odour Hotline 020 8547 4669.  When leaving a message it is important to provide your full contact details, including name and address as without this information we are unable to plot your location and establish the extent of the odour.  You may also make your complaint in writing to:

Environmental Health Service
Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames
Guildhall
Kingston upon Thames
KT1 1EU

Fax: 020 8547 5568

Thames Water has also requested complaints to be made direct to them so that they may investigate the source of the odour.  They can be contacted on 08459 200800. Updates of information will be placed on this web page and we propose setting up a link with Thames Water Customer Services who can advise you of maintenance/repair works likely to cause odour.

If you would like to discuss odour incidents in person please telephone the Environmental Health Service on 020 8547 5536/5541 for assistance.
