Environmental Health Officers in Local Authorities carry out regular checks on all food premises to ensure the public is protected and that high standards are maintained.
Star ratings will be allocated to food premises inspected since 1 January 2007 in the borough. This rating ranges from no stars for the worst levels of compliance, through to five stars for the very best standards of food safety management.
The scores show how well each business complies with food hygiene and safety legislation. The scores reflect the cleanliness and structural conditions of the premises, and the ability of staff to handle food safely. Scores apply to the time of the last inspection only, so the rating is simply a snapshot in time and may not represent current conditions at the business.
You can be confident that the scheme is consistent right across London because the scores used to decide the star rating are based on a national code of practice.
