Food premises are visited on a regular basis to ensure cleanliness and good hygiene practice. Business proprietors must ensure they have identified all food safety hazards and made sure that any hazards are controlled. This is known as hazard analysis and forms part of the food hygiene inspection of a food business by an Environmental Health Officer.
Although there is no legal requirement to attend a formal training course, food businesses must make sure that any staff who handle food are supervised, instructed and/or trained in food hygiene.
The necessary skills may be obtained through on-the-job training, self study, relevant prior experience or attending a course.
