Iyalode of e-waste

We live in an age of gadgets and gizmos, but how often do we stop to consider where our old laptops, mobiles and televisions go? The answer is often overseas to be recycled, to places such as Lagos, where the poorest and least educated work to dismantle this dirty and hazardous waste and are exposed to carcinogenic chemicals and heavy metals.

Dr Margaret Bates (Northampton University) has designed training methods and delivered workshops to help educate those most at risk. Come along to discover what really happens to our e-waste and how Dr Bates overcame language and literacy issues to communicate safe recycling methods to Lagos workers.
