Green Guardian Awards 2008

Celebrating Green Kingston

Celebrating Green Kingston is an initiative to bring, under one umbrella event, three recognised environmental awards in the Borough: Kingston in Bloom, Green Guardian Awards and Sustainable Transport Awards. The idea is to promote a sense of collective achievement by recognising and valuing individual efforts and their positive contribution to tackle bigger environmental issues, such as Climate Change. This is the first year of this event and we expect it to grow year after year, setting the foundation for a strong network that supports and encourages environmental actions in the borough.

Green Guardian Awards 2008

The Green Guardian Awards celebrate the environmental achievements of individuals, groups, business and schools in Kingston and across South West London. There are plenty of initiatives, some very creative, happening in the borough to reduce the negative impact that we all have on the environment.

This award intends to bring these projects to light, recognise the efforts of those involved and learn from their experience, enthusiasm and initiative. We want to create a community that moves together towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

Last year’s winners found the awards to be a major boost to their work. “I am delighted and astonished to win. It is also very encouraging. Being green is a habit and people get into bad habits, but it is a lot easier if you are not wasteful”, said Effie Mackensie, ‘Green Household’ winner in 2007.

“We were really pleased that our hard work has been recognised. It has inspired us to think about doing more growing on our vegetable patch”, said Jo Compton from Tolworth Girls’ School, winners of the Green Secondary School award.
