The Conservation and Urban Design teams provide the following services:
- Designating and managing Conservation Areas;
- Managing the Council's duties for Listed Buildings;
- Identifying potential Listed Buildings and submitting "Spot Listing" applications;
- Protecting and promoting other historic built fabric;
- Initiating and inputting into the design of public space improvement schemes;
- Advising on the conservation and design elements of planning and other types of applications (e.g. appeals and enforcement of unauthorised development) in conjunction with the Development Control Team;
- Formulating Council policy for the historic built environment and urban design matters. (In conjunction with the Planning Policy Team);
- Promoting good conservation and urban design practice on Council managed land.
The Conservation and Urban Design teams aim to:
- Preserve and enhance the historic built environment and the local distinctiveness of the borough.
- Ensure high quality development of public spaces and key developments borough wide.
Please note that the Conservation and Urban Design teams do not deal with Nature Conservation matters.
