Creating attractive gardens that minimise the use of resources

Who are we?

Local residents concerned about the environment and keen on gardening

What does Sustainable Gardening involve?

  • Use of drought tolerant plants
  • Use of water saving methods
  • Mixed planting using wild flowers and garden plants
  • Introduction of fruits and vegetables as part of the landscape
  • Balance between trees/shrubs and bedding plants
  • Use of propagation techniques
  • Leave undisturbed areas for wildlife
  • Use of non-peat based compost
  • Use of mulching and ground cover

What do we want to achieve?

Transform Kingston into a Green Borough that supports local biodiversity and contributes towards helping the environment through sustainable gardening practices.

How do we do it?

  • Promoting sustainable gardening through the Kingston in Bloom Competition
  • Promoting knowledge and experience sharing among gardeners in the borough
  • Organising workshops and other events
