Why insulating your home is good for you
- Draught proofing
In a typical home 20 per cent of all heat loss is through poor ventilation and draughts. If everyone in the UK adopted a few simple draught proofing measures in their homes, such as fitting brushes to letterboxes, we'd save around £200m per year!
- Solid wall insulation
If you have solid walls you can either insulate them with external or internal insulation, saving you up to £500 a year on your energy bills.
- Glazing
Double glazing cuts heat lost through windows by half and installing Energy Saving Recommended double glazing could save around £140 a year on your heating bills. Double glazing works by trapping air between two panes of glass creating an insulating barrier that reduces heat loss, noise and condensation.
Why insulating your home is good for the environment
- Insulation - the best way for you to save energy
The two best ways to reduce the amount of energy a home uses are:
1) Install cavity wall insulation
2) Lay insulation in your loft.
In doing so you will drastically reduce the harmful CO2 emissions caused by your home’s energy consumption.
If every house in the UK that could installed cavity wall insulation it would cut CO2 emissions by around 4.6 million tonnes, enough to fill the new Wembley Stadium 590 times, and save over £860 million a year.
