The Planning Portal website provides useful and authoritative guidance on the Planning and Building Control system including an interactive house guide which displays information about how the Regulations might apply to various types of building project. Please use the link to the general public area of the Planning Portal website shown below.
The Royal Borough has also produced a series of Plain English leaflets to help provide a simple guide to the legal procedures required by Building Regulations. These can be accessed using the pages listed on the left or pdf copies of the leaflets can be downloaded from the links below.
These leaflets offer basic guidance notes only and are not a full interpretation of the law. If you have any doubt as to whether or not your proposed work requires Building Regulations approval, please do not hesitate to contact us. Remember some work may also require Planning Permission which is an entirely separate process from that administered by Building Control. You should also be aware that certain development will involve requirements to notify adjoining owners under the Party Wall Act. Application forms and further information including frequently asked questions can be accessed by clicking on the 'Building Control' link displayed above.
