About Special Educational Needs
Experts have estimated that there are 5 children in every class with greater difficulty learning than the majority of similar aged children. Children who are gifted are not included within Special Educational Needs.
To help us to understand what we mean by Special Educational Needs (SEN), we think of what might prevent a child becoming a successful learner:
- Thinking and understanding (cognition)
- Behaviour and concentration (emotional and social)
- Speaking, listening and getting on with people (communication and interaction)
- Physical or sensory needs
