The Parent Centre has been set up by the Government for all parents who want to help their child or children to learn.
10 things it suggests:
- Give your child lots of praise and encouragement.
- Read to, and with, your child for at least 20 minutes a day.
- Encourage children to talk, even young children.
- Use your local library.
- Visit museums and galleries. Entry is free to most of them.
- Watch television with your child and talk about what you have seen.
- Do "homework" with young children. Schools won't mind if the family join in!
- Where possible, have a quiet place to do homework.
- Discuss homework with your child. Practise helping without taking over!
- Try to help your child enjoy homework!
Your children will enjoy school more if they have had a good night’s sleep, they arrive at school on time and their attendance is regular.
