
Professional Development
We provide an extensive training programme and contribute to school-based training to support the development of all school staff. We encourage schools to allow all staff sufficient time to make full use of the professional development opportunities on offer.
The facilities and staff at our Professional Development Centre in Surbiton, and our inspectors, advisers and consultants, provide:
- KIMS (Kingston INSET Management System) to support schools in booking and recording all professional development activities and costs;
- Course programmes, evaluation forms and certificates for all those participating in training;
- Advice to schools on planning and evaluating staff development, and on writing and reviewing staff development policies;
- Guidance on NQT Induction, HEADLAMP, the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) and the Leadership Programme for Serving Headteachers (LPSH);
- Consultancy and advice on Performance Management;
- Support for school Staff Development Coordinators;
- High quality support for NQTs and a new training programme designed to meet the professional development needs of teachers in their second and third years.
Each school has a Link Inspector who provides advice, support, monitoring and training specifically for that school. Your school will also receive guidance and training from specialist staff in the following areas:
- All the main areas of the National Curriculum;
- Implementation of the National Literacy and Numeracy strategies;
- Improving ICT and implementing the National Grid for Learning;
- Special Educational Needs;
- Behaviour, attendance and exclusion reduction;
- Early Years;
- Bilingual learners and raising achievement for pupils from ethnic minority groups;
- Development of post-16 education, vocational education and development of key skills from age 14 - 19;
- Personal, social, health, drugs and sex education;
- Religious Education; close working with SACRE;
- Kingston training network meetings, publications and KIMS;
- School self-review and target setting, provision of performance data;
- Analysis of local and national standards of attainment, analysis of quality of education in OFSTED reports;
In addition, the following services are provided to schools:
- Intensive support and monitoring of schools in special measures, schools with serious weaknesses and schools causing concern;
- Support for the management development of headteachers, deputies and subject leaders through regular network meetings and training, together with support for the NPQH and LPSH.
