Extended School Services

Kingston's Extended Schools Service provides a range of services and activities, beyond the school day, to help meet the needs of pupils, their families and the wider communities.

Services for children over five are provided through local schools working together in groups alongside other local organisations. These groups of schools are called "clusters".  The accompanying map shows how the borough has been split into the four clusters.

By 2010, we want all children to have access to a range of extended services in and around their school. These services can be organised directly by the school, or in partnership with private or voluntary sector providers. Whilst many schools choose to develop an even richer mix of services and activities, we will provide at least the following services.  Further information on cluster specific services can be found on the cluster pages.

Why Extended Schools?

Extended schools are at the heart of the delivery of the government's Every Child Matters programme, helping children and young people do better. We want to improve pupil attainment, self-confidence, motivation and attendance; to reduce exclusion rates; to support teachers' efforts to help children learn; and to improve children's and families' access to services.
