Kingston Youth Big Band at Canbury Bandstand

We have a range of bands available for young musicians who want to experience playing music in a group and performing.

Membership Information and Fees

  • Each of these bands run for ten sessions per school term.
  • The cost for joining one of these bands is £52 per term
  • Activity Passport for more than one activity (including theory classes) is £75 per term
  • Family discount of 50% is available for siblings
  • Bursary students are free for the first year and pay £13 per term for sebsequent years

Kingston Wind Band

The Kingston Wind Band is a friendly band which rehearses every Thursday evening at Tolworth Girls’ School and is a natural feeder band for the Kingston Youth Concert Band.

Kingston Wind Band
For all woodwind, brass and percussion players at Grade 2 to 5 standard.
5:30 to 6:30pm.
Thursday evenings at Tolworth Girls' School.

Kingston Youth Concert Band

KYCB was formed to enhance to musical activities in Kingston. The band has built up and maintainted a strong presence in the community, averaging around 50 players.

The band can be seen in Canbury gardens each Summer entertaining the public by the river on a Sunday afternoon. The band plays a huge variety of music from film, TV, and the pop world to classical and original wind band compositions.

For all woodwind, brass and percussion players from Grade 5 and above.
9:15 to 11:15am.
Saturday mornings at Coombe Girls' School.

Kingston Youth Big Band

Playing a wide range of jazz from ballroom to festival enables the band to perform at a variety of occasions.

The band's range includes various styles of jazz, improvisation, and music from be-bop to modern funk. Always working hard, KYBB has earned recognition playing at such festivals as the Soho Jazz Festival - London; Delft Jazz festival - Holland; and at major circuit venues; the Bulls Head - Barnes and the 100 Club - London; and received acclaim at the Music for Youth festival at the QEH - London.

As well as a busy schedule of regular gigs in and around the borough, the Band also tours each year. Countries visited include Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Austria, Germany, Spain, Czech Republic, Canada, and Italy.

Open to KYCB members from Grade 6 and above.
11:15am to 12:30pm.

Kingston Training Band

The Kingston Training Band is for students pre-grade 1 to grade 2. It is made up of woodwind (flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon), brass (trumpet, trumbone, euphonium, baritone and tuba) and percussion.
Students are taught basic ensemble technique, how to play with others and how to follow a conductor. The band usually performs once a term and members usually feed into the Kingston Wind Band.

Membership fee is £50 per term which covers 10 rehearsals

Rehearsals will commence in the Summer Term
4.30pm to 5.30pm
Thursday afternoons at Tolworth Girls School
