If you have applied for music tuition through Kingston Music and Arts Service (KMAS), you will be required to provide the instruments to bring during lessons and for practice at home. Please see below for information about hiring or buying instruments.

Hiring

You local music shop may offer an instrument hire service. KMAS recommends contacting ABC Music (based in Esher and Kew) or Hands Music (Kingston) for instrumental hire. Visit the links below for more information.

Hiring versus buying

Hiring an instrument can be a good way to "try before buying", especially when the pupil is just starting lessons on a new instrument or will outgrow an instrument quickly.

In other cases, it may be more cost effective to purchase a good quality starter instrument. For example, ABC Music offers acoustic guitar starter packs from around £105. Taking advantage of our Assisted Instrument Purchase service, the cost could be further reduced. In this case, purchasing a new instrument could be more cost effective than hiring one over the course of a year and beyond.
