1) Peripatetic Music Teachers

Kingston Music and Arts Service (KMAS) provides music tuition for pupils who wish to learn an instrument or receive vocal tuition in schools throughout the Borough. In addition, we run centres for those who wish to learn outside of school hours.

Peripatetic teachers (who travel from school to school) are required for September 2008, employed on a part-time basis and contracted for 30 weeks per year. We are currently looking for:

  • Woodwind teachers

KMAS requires woodwind teachers specialising in instruments including recorder, clarinet, flute, oboe, bassoon and saxophone.
  • Upper and lower strings teacher

KMAS requires string teachers specialising in instruments including violin, viola, cello and double bass.
  • Vocal teacher

KMAS requires teachers specialising in voice tuition.

2) Wider Opportunities Teachers

Wider opportunities classes in school give children the experience of trying new instruments. We are looking for teachers of strings, woodwind and voice. Positions as class leaders and assistants are available.

3) Flute Choir Conductor - Maternity Cover

The Kingston Flute Choir is an advanced flute group for players of grade 5 standard and above. The group rehearses on Saturday mornings at Coombe Music Centre during term time and work towards concert performances. We are looking for a conductor/director to both maintain the high standard and seek new ways to develop the group.

4) Concert Band Musical Director and Big Band Musical Director

The Kingston Youth Concert Band and Kingston Youth Big Band are the two senior groups in their style of the Kingston Music and Arts Service. Both bands rehearse at Coombe Music Centre on a Saturday morning during term time. Both groups accept members of grade 6 and above and have a high reputation. They have a busy performance schedule in the Borough throughout the year and usually tour each summer.

We are looking for a director to both maintain the high standard and seek new ways to develop both of these groups.
