Graded music examinations can motivate pupils to achieve by working towards a set goal. The 'grades' are recognised as international benchmarks and are valued by teachers and institutions all over the world.
One of the major exam boards is the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Associated Board practical exams provide a progressive system of assessments beginning with the Prep Test and moving up through 8 grades to diplomas.
The Associated Board also offers graded music theory exams. Pupils who wish to take grade 6 and above practical exams must first achieve a pass in grade 5 music theory. See the Courses and Activities section for more details about our Grade 5 Music Theory Course.
Ask your tutor for details if you wish to be entered for an exam. Visit the Associated Board website (link below) to find out about syllabus requirements, exam dates and fees.
If you are interested in any other exam boards and syllabuses - for example Trinity Guildhall and Rockschool Exams, then visit their websites for more information (links below) and ask your tutor for advice.
