You can find information on a variety of childcare options online, including day nurseries, pre schools, creches, childminders and schools from the DirectGov website. You can now also search on the Kingston Council website, or to the left on the Childcare Information page. We are currently in the process of updating the childcare information on this site, the childcare information is no longer in PDF format on the bottom of this page as we understand there is an accessibility issue on some home PC's, please see the links on the left hand side.

For Childminders, we have created a leaflet on questions to ask, things to look out for when visiting the childminders home. This leaflet is called "Guidelines for choosing a childminder" and is also available at the bottom of this page.
You can also view the guidelines for the control of infection and communicable disease in school and early years settings’ on the HPA website.
If you are looking for a childminder, please either use the FSD link above or call us for an up to date list. Please be aware that childminder details cannot be shown in their entirety online as their details are data protected.
Day nurseries provide care and education for pre-school children aged from six weeks to five years old. Hours tend to fit in with an average working day of 8am – 6pm and care is usually provided all year round. You can send your child full or part time. Most nurseries offer early education, but please speak to your provider about terms and conditions first.
Pre-schools and playgroups provide early education and childcare for children from two to five years of age. Most offer daily sessions between two and a half and three hours long during term times. Some pre schools are developing their services to offer longer sessions or full time daycare. Most pre schools and playgroups in Kingston offer the free Early Education Funding (EEF).
Holiday play schemes are classed as out of school services. Out of school services are for school-age children to play and learn and have fun in groups. They are usually based in or near schools and more are being set up to help families where parents work. Out of school services can be registered with OFSTED provided they are caring for children under 8 years of age or more than two hours a day and more than 6 days a year.
Creches provide short-term childcare where a child can be looked after while a parent/carer usually remains on site doing an activity i.e leisure or shopping, college or personal appointment. Some creches may provide a “drop and shop“ creche where parents can go off site. Creches usually take children from 0-5yrs although some do allow older children to attend.
