Disabled Inclusion Group - DIG

The DIG group, chaired by a Kingston Adult Education (KAE) learner, comprises 12 people: 6 learners; 2 former learners (1 now also staff); 3 staff (1 also a carer); and 1 carer.   Three members have been the recipients of learner awards (2002/3, 2005/6 and 2006/7) and one learner won the Learner of the Year award in 2005/6.

The group recently secured the support of a 'Governor Champion' who will lobby on its behalf when necessary.

The group has been active for nearly two years and has given valuable feedback and suggestions on KAE policies, procedures and paperwork as well as making a major contribution the development of KAE’s Equality Scheme.

DIG enjoys the full backing of the management at KAE and has seen the majority of its suggestion implemented.  The Chair of the group delivers well received Mental Health Awareness training to KAE staff.

If you would like to put forward any suggestions for the group to consider, or highlight any issues of concern, please contact Julie Bennett on 0208 547 6764 or email julie.bennett@rbk.kingston.gov.uk
