The 16 Days of Activism

The 16 Days of Activism is an international initiative running from 25 November (International Day Against Violence Against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day) in order to symbolically link violence against women and human rights.

During this period, groups campaign for the elimination of violence against women by:

  • raising awareness about gender-based violence as a human rights issue at the local, national, regional and international levels
  • strengthening local work around violence against women. Violence Against Women includes Domestic Violence, Sexual Violence, Female Genital Mutilation, Forced Marriage, “Honour” based Violence, Prostitution and Trafficking.

In Kingston this year our 16 Days Campaign includes:

  • The White Ribbon and Real man campaign, in which we ask that people wear white ribbons to show their support to ending Violence Against  Women and Girls
  • A survivor day where Key Services and survivors join together and celebrate freedom from violence and abuse, with Natasha Devon from Body Gossip coming to speak to survivors.
  • A multi-agency awareness day, where we open the One Stop Shop to all professionals in the borough, to demonstrate how the One Stop Shop resource works and promote it to all front line practitioners in the borough.
