Rewind

Rewind

What is Rewind?

Rewind is a voluntary programme that aims to ensure that children aged 8 to 13 years old receive support from services at an early stage to help prevent them becoming involved in anti-social and offending behaviour.

Support from Rewind

Rewind will provide a voluntary package of support which aims to get young people back on track.

Rewind has a range of specialist agencies that can target services and activities to young people and their families who will benefit from them the most.

The Rewind Panel includes representatives from: education, The Children’s Fund, Police, Housing, Social Services and the Youth Offending Team.

Who should be referred?

Young people aged 8 to 13 years old with the consent of the parent or carer.

Who shouldn't be referred?

Any young person who has passed the police reprimand stage and are further    involved in the criminal justice system.

Who can make referrals?

Referrals can be made by anyone that has a concern for a young person, as long as they have the written consent of the parent or carer. The Rewind consent form can be downloaded at the bottom of the page.

Not all young people will be suitable for the Rewind project, if you refer a young person and they are not accepted, Rewind will ensure that you will be offered information on other organisations who might be able to help.

When would a young person benefit from Rewind?

  • Is the young person frequently getting into trouble at school?
  • Has the young person ever been excluded from school?
  • Has the young person been a victim of crime?
  • Have relationship problems affected  the young person?
  • Does the young person live in an area where there is a high crime rate?
  • Does the young person live in an area where there are concerns about the availability of drugs and alcohol to young people?
  • Is the young person’s family becoming unhappy with the type of people that the young person is mixing with?
  • Do you suspect that the young person is becoming involved in petty crime?
  • Does the young person have an older sibling who has been in trouble with the police and you are worried that the young person may be going the same way?

If you answered yes to two or more of these questions, then the rewind may  benefit you and your young person.

When a young person has been referred and accepted What happens next?

Step One
Once a young person has been referred to the Rewind project, the Rewind key worker will visit the young person and their family to complete an assessment.

Step Two
The Rewind Co-ordinator will then present the assessment to a panel which meet monthly.

The Panel consider the assessment and decide which services the young person and their family need and which organisations will provide them. The Panel then put forward a support package for the young person and their family.

Step Three
The support starts and the Rewind key worker will ensure that the young person receives the services that the Panel have highlighted as necessary. Rewind will review the support on a regular basis to make sure that it is helping. The length of the support from Rewind will depend on each individual case, but should last between approximately 3 to 6 months.
