Parents Forum

The Parents Forum is a group of Kingston parents and carers who are consulted on services for children, young people and families in Kingston. Consultations are usually combined with fun days out for the family. Anyone that is a parent or carer and lives in the borough or has a child attending a school in the borough can join.

The Aims of the Parents Forum

To listen to the voice of Kingston's parents
For parents views to impact onto Borough Services
To provide an opportunity for parents to meet as a group
To have consultations with Parents Forum members (one every term)
To create a database of parents/carers wishing to be involved with the Parents Forum

Rose Theatre, July 2009

In July 2009 we held an event at the Rose Theatre for Parents Forum members and their families. Parents gave us their views on services for young people in Kingston, as well as their comments on a new 'Parents Charter'.

Some of the results of the consultation have been summarised below:

A high number of parents felt that they would most need support when
- their child was moving from Primary to Secondary School (82%),
- their child was choosing their GCSE options (65%) and
- when leaving school at 16 (60%)
Parents rated all the following areas as important, particularly for children in their early teenage years:Anger, Anti-Social behaviour, Sex and relationships and Drugs and Alcohol
69% of parents felt that the website was the best place to get more information
46% of parents felt that drop in services were the best way to receive support
