Our vision is to have excellent integrated services to support all children, young people and their families. Over 33,000 children and young people aged under 19 live in the Royal Brough of Kingston upon Thames. Nearly 9,000 of these are under 5.
Kingston Council and its partners have an ambitious programme to improve the lives of children and young people across the borough. Our Children and Young People’s Trust is developing shared ways of working across agencies such as Education, Health, Social Services, the Police, Connexions, the Local Learning and Skills Council and the voluntary sector.
Our priorities for improving children and young people’s health, safety, achievements, positive contribution and economic well-being are set out in the Children and Young People’s Plan.
The Children and Young People’s Partnership is responsible for ensuring that the Plan is regularly monitored, evaluated and reviewed.
All services for children and young people in the local area were inspected during September 2006 in a process known as a Joint Area Review (JAR). A full report on the JAR was published in December 2006 and Kingston became the first Council to be judged as ‘outstanding’ in a JAR inspection report and to receive the top score of 4.
The ‘outstanding’ rating awarded to Childrens’ Services contributes to the Council’s overall Corporate Assessment score. The overall grades achieved in Kingston are the highest in the country so far under the new inspection process, which came into operation in September 2005.
