What should I do if something is wrong with the goods I buy?
Tell the trader as soon as possible. If goods are faulty or not as described to you by the trader then you are generally entitled to a repair, replacement or, in some cases, a refund.
What if I don't have a receipt?
You may not always need a receipt if you have other proof of purchase e.g. a credit card statement.
Do I have to accept a credit note if I return something?
Not if the goods are faulty or not as described to you.
Do I have any rights when I buy second hand goods from a trader?
The goods should still be in reasonable condition bearing in mind their description, age and the price you paid.
Can I cancel a service I have ordered if it isn't carried out in a reasonable time eg car repair?
If a service isn't carried out by an agreed date you may be able to cancel the order. If the service takes longer than agreed you may be entitled to compensation.
Do I have any additional rights if I pay by credit card?
If you have problems with goods or services costing over £100 you may be able to claim compensation from the credit card company if the trader will not co-operate or goes bust!
Am I protected if I buy goods on the internet?
If you buy goods from a UK company then you have the same rights as if you shopped on the High Street, plus you may also have a cooling off period.
