Kingston Council is committed to ensuring that all companies with which it does business are able to operate safely and will ask questions before awarding contracts in order to satisfy itself that there are suitable arrangements in place.
Health and safety measures do not have to be expensive, time consuming or complicated for smaller companies. In fact, safer and more efficient working practices can save money and greatly improve working conditions for your employees. If you have five or more employees you will need to write down your health and safety policy. It needn't be overly complicated, but should be something that is meaningful and useful to you and your staff. Organisations with more than 5 staff will also need to identify specific workplace hazards to which their staff may be exposed (such as working at height, use of machinery or moving and handling) and explain what measures are in place to avoid accidents and injuries.
There is lots of information to help small companies available on the Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) website or you can contact the Environmental Health Department for more advice.
