Why build equalities into the procurement process?
Building equalities into the procurement process can improve the quality of services, making them more appropriate and more responsive to the needs of different communities. All minority groups have a right to expect public money to be spent on services which suit their needs. It can also improve the overall value for money of the goods, works, or services purchased.
Promotion of equalities in the procurement process will help the Council to:
- Obtain best value for the Council and improve the quality of local authority services.
- Ensure that public money is not spent on practices, which lead to unfair discrimination.
- Encourage the contractor to promote a diverse and integrated workforce.
- Deliver more responsive and flexible services in combating social exclusion and building strong communities.
- Encourage other organisations to practice the Council's public service ethos on equalities.
