Blue Badge Scheme and Parking Facilities

Essential information about the Blue Badge Scheme

The Blue Badge Scheme provides a national arrangement of parking concessions for:

  • drivers or passengers with severe walking difficulties or who are registered blind
  • people who hold a driving licence and have a severe impairment in both upper limbs and who are unable to operate, or have  great difficulty in operating, all or some types of parking meter
  • children under 2 with certain serious medical conditions requiring the transportation of bulky medical equipment or who need to be kept near a vehicle at all times in order to be treated in the vehicle or to be taken immediately to a place where they can be treated

It allows badge holders to park on street close to their destination.

Applying for a Disabled Persons' Parking Bay close to your home

The Council will consider applications for individual disabled persons' parking bays in residential areas. There are very strict criteria which have to be observed before a bay can be provided. Individual disabled persons parking bays are not normally provided within a controlled parking zone as blue badge holders can park close to their home without charge in any permit or shared use bay.

For more information on applying for bays, see the link below: 'Guidance and application form for Disabled Persons' Parking Bay (close to home)'. If, after reading the criteria information, you think you may qualify for a blue badge parking bay to be installed close to your home, please print, complete, sign and post the form.

If you have any further questions please:
